LETS LEARN MORE !
Tell us briefly about yourself and the BBC Learning Hub.
My name is Vincent Ong Aik Cheng, I am one of the Co-Founder of Belajar Bahasa Cina Learning Hub and also a dedicated Chinese teacher. We proudly established our Learning center beginning of May 2015. It all began when I met Eng Jia Ming; our first motivation was to help more people to master Mandarin for their daily conversation, or in their workplace and academic purpose, months later BBC Learning Hub was created.
We currently have beginner classes in Shah Alam, Petaling Jaya, Puchong, Seremban, Melaka, Putrajaya, Klang and Banting and Kuala Lumpur, also an advanced class as well as a Primary student class in Shah Alam.
Why did you start teaching Mandarin?
There are 5 main reasons why we started teaching Mandarin.
First of all, I was born in Indonesia and I had the opportunity to migrate to Malaysia for education. That is exactly where I picked up my Mandarin, which has always been an interesting language to me. Secondly, my experience in China, particularly in Guangzhou, made me realise that Western people can speak Mandarin very fluently; they can even crack a joke! Then I wondered why not Malaysians?
The third reason based on my observations is the strong bonding among Malaysians. There is around 20% of Chinese population in Malaysia. Chinese can speak English, Malay and Mandarin. Why not non-Chinese can speak Mandarin as well? I want to give this opportunity for them.
In addition, we cannot deny the importance of Mandarin nowadays. If you can master Mandarin, you have a competitive edge, which can be use in International business. In fact, Mandarin is the most widely spoken language in the world.
Finally, we have an effective technique to learn Mandarin. You will be able to speak accurately, understand the vocabulary and create your own sentence right after our first class.
How to get started in learning Mandarin?
I have three advices for you:
The first advice is Do It Yourself (DIY) motivate yourself. You can buy a Mandarin book and read it on your own. You can also download some mobile apps to enhance learning experience. Of course, it will take more time and effort as you learn on your own because no one is there to help you when you have any questions. You will have to be very committed in taking the initiative to learn everyday. This method is mostly for committed person that will invest time everyday in learning Mandarin. We have a couple of books, audio, video files, and online lifetime support, which can help you. You can go to our website, www.belajarbahasacina.com.my then select bbcpackage to order our bbcpackage, which consists of books, audio, video and online lifetime support!
The second advice would be to ask your friends to teach you Mandarin. If you have a good Chinese friend or a friend who can speak fluently Chinese, you can try to ask for a favor. The most important criteria is to learn correctly, with someone who can teach you proper and accurate Mandarin words. If you have such friend who is very good in Mandarin and he or she can teach you you should really go for it! And it will be even better if your friend can help you until you are able to speak fluent Mandarin!
My third advice is to attend a class from an established Mandarin Centre. If you found a Mandarin Centre nearby your home and they can offer quality Mandarin class, you should join the class. You will learn the systematic method. If you are staying in Klang Valley or Melaka area, I strongly urge you to join BBC class. We can almost guarantee you that if you have the right attitude, all you need is the right skills and knowledge that we will be sharing in class, then you are able to speak Mandarin in 60 hours.
All the best in your learning Mandarin journey! Remember the best investment is to invest in you. Once you already master Mandarin, you cannot unlearn it and you will be speaking Mandarin for the rest of your life, we will assure you that it is worth your time and effort.
What it takes to speak Mandarin?
If you are asking me “Can anyone manage to speak Mandarin in 60 hours?”, I will answer without hesitation “Definitely Yes!”. We believe that Mandarin is not the hardest language. In fact the other languages are as hard. If you can understand and speak English, we definitely believe that you can speak Mandarin. Of course, it should come with a positive attitude and the right skills. Now you’re asking yourself “what are the skills?” right?
Well, the skills are the knowledge about Mandarin that you must possess. It includes pronunciation (cover in Topic 5 How to pronounce Han Yu Pin Yin?), vocabulary, grammar (cover in Topic 6 Ways to understand vocabulary and grammar), and sentence structure (cover in Topic 7. How to construct correct sentences?) .
Now, are the skills the only requirements to speak Mandarin in 60 hours? Of course not! You need one more thing; positive ATTITUDE!
For instance, we encountered this situation with our BBC students; two students started at the same time, enrolled in the same class and had the same tutors, but had different results after 60 hours of learning. Student A can speak Mandarin after 60 hours, but student B still has a lot of difficulty to speak Mandarin after 60 hours. We tried to figure out why. After having done some researches and getting students feedbacks, we finally got to understand!
We provide the same value and knowledge to all our students, but each student has different set of attitude! Some students are hardworking and never skip the classes but they are too shy to speak Mandarin! Some students may skip the classes as they have things to do, but they will still do BBC workbook and take time to learn Mandarin at home! Attitude is very important in everything we do. We share all the knowledge and skills to master Mandarin; in fact, we also motivate the student in class. The ugly truth is we cannot shape and change students attitude easily, it takes lots of time and effort to shape a good attitude.
If you have good attitude, you can surely master Mandarin, we can guarantee you can speak Mandarin in 60 hours! We actually offer money back guarantee, but only to students who have good attitude! In conclusion, good attitude means willing to put effort and invest time, perseverance, hardworking, and courage to speak out and do what it takes to master Mandarin!
Can you describe us what is different about your Centre.
The difference between BBC and other centres is our teaching style. We focus on the practical part. We have noticed that students are more encouraged with this method. In our class, we make students speak in Mandarin with each other. They have more confidence and they can notice directly their mistakes. Practicing the language is very important as a form of learning.
We also provide added value to our students. To help them improve, we provide BBC Textbook and Workbook as a theoretical method thus they can always revise their Mandarin at anytime. We also have BBC Audio and Video Files, these are important for the pronunciation. Hearing how the words are pronounced can help them progress in Mandarin.
Finally, we want to be very involved in students’ progression in Mandarin. The lifetime support group, which is a daily conversation, follows them and can be used at anytime to help the students. Our centre also has uniform, examination, certificate and trophy to acknowledge that the student has completed his course with success.
What is your long-term vision?
I hope in the future that more Malaysians can speak fluent Mandarin. This will reduce miscommunication and misunderstanding. It will bring greater bonding among Malaysians!
