Best ways to encourage your child to develop for study habit
How will you encourage your kids to study at home? If you find it challenging and frustrating, here are some easy things helping you develop good study habits in your children.
Not all children are excited about homework or revising their chapters at home. If your kid is one of them, you must have witnessed his tantrums or excuses when it comes to study and homework. Considering the importance of good study habits, it is obvious to worry over your children’s negligence towards the study. How will he learn? How will he get good grades?
There is no use of shouting at him for not studying as it will make your kid stubborn. Remember, you have to develop a study habit in him, not to impose it.
So, how to encourage them to study hard? Don’t worry! Here are the things you can try to motivate your child for study.
#1 Set a Routine:
With practice and routine, it will be easier for the kids to develop study habits. So, establish a specific time for study and make them stick to it. Setting aside a study time also helps kids to manage their time effectively when they progress through the school year. Make sure that they are following the schedule daily. In this way, it becomes a habit for them to study at the time set by you.
#2 Create a Positive Learning Environment:
Sometime, environment at your home influences the study decision of your kids. It is not easy for them to study with too many interruptions around. They sit down to study but are distracted by TV or stereo player. They are also disturbed with the presence of people around them.
Therefore, the study room of your kids is calm and away from all types of household distractions. Shift video games, TV and stereo players to the other parts of the home. However, some kids perform well while listening to their favourite music. Others find it disturbing. So ask them their preferences first before making any arrangement.
#3 Encourage Them:
You guidance and motivational words are valuable to them. Appreciate their efforts to do homework and help them identify where they need improvement. Tell them that learning outside classroom is more than homework. Encourage your kids to ask questions, read carefully, and make research. You can also reward them for their performance. Besides, you should regularly talk to your kids about their performance and learning at school.
#4 Make the Learning Interactive and Fun:
Don’t limit your kid to the bookish knowledge. Take him out to the places he has read about at school. Use real life objects to demonstrate science experiments and simply the maths questions. You can also prepare a flow chart or use educational games to evoke your kid’s interest in study. In this way, a child will find a study no more tedious or burden.
#5 Assist Them:
Many students lack interest in study just because they find some chapters difficult and frustrating as well. So, you must assist your kids to understand those lessons. You can clarify and simplify the tasks. Check their revisions to make sure they are heading to the right direction. If they are not willing to study, don’t force them. Instead, tell them the benefits of studying and how it will influence their academic career. You can also meet their teacher to know where your kids are lacking.
#6 Create a Study Group:
Study groups can be beneficial for the study of your kids in many ways. First of all, your kids will be interested in reading or doing homework after finding that their peers are doing the same thing. Secondly, they can get help from other students when they’re struggling to understand a concept or want to complete the assignment. For creating a study group, you can invite their friends or kids from the neighbour to your home. Make sure to keep the group small and structured.
So these are the things you should try to develop a good study habit in your kids. Needless to say it takes your time and tests your patience as well. But it is equally true that your all efforts will be rewarded in the long run. Go ahead and develop a love in your children for study so that they can achieve excellence in academic career and life as well.
